アメリカの自己紹介

アメリカで働く・暮らす際に欠かせないのが自己紹介。日本とアメリカでは文化が異なるため、必然的に自己紹介のポイントは変わって来ます。

ビジネスシーンにおいて、日本では①会社名、②所属部署、③自分の名前となりますが、アメリカではその逆で①自分の名前、②所属部署、③会社名となります。また、アメリカには「謙遜文化」が無いため、謙遜的な言い回しをしてしまうと「自身が無い人」と思われてしまうので、注意が必要です。

【〇 minutes pitch】

アメリカでは、プレゼンテーションやセミナーの際に用いられる「3 minutes pitch」というものがあります。これは、ある種定型文になるのですが、自己紹介の場合はもう少し短い「1 minute pitch」が用いられる事が多くあります。これは「自分がどういった人なのかを知って貰う」ためのツールと捉えられ、このツールを事前に用意しておく事でコミュニケーションが円滑になるというものになります。

ポイントは仕事や私生活など、シーンによって異なりますが、「名前」「何をしているのか」「何に関心があるのか」などになります。また、自己紹介の長さはシーンによって異なっても良いため、実際は20-30秒という事もあり得ます。

私生活における「1 minute pitch」(例)

ポイント：名前、どこから来た、アメリカは〇年目、趣味、ボランティア、最近の関心ごと、など

Well, actually, I do run my own business and most of my clients are Japanese companies in America. They’re basically Headquartered in Japan and quite big, having hundreds and thousands of employees, but the other hand their office here in the US is rather small, having only 20-30-40, maybe 50 maximum employees, so we have to deal with the size difference regarding HR strategies, but not just that, the most important part is the difference in the working culture among those 2 countries.


So, that’s where I come in. I’ve been working in the states for more than 1o years, but I’m originally from Japan. Born and raised. I‘ve worked there for 5 years right after I’ve graduated college, and I now have a certificate for SHRM-SCP. So my work experience in both 2 countries and my HR profession goes right in to fill those gaps. So… that’s what I basically do! Tell me about yourself too. What do you live for?
